Volunteer Opportunity
Brain Injury is the leading cause of death and disability among people under the age of 45. Brain injuries can happen to anyone and can have lifelong implications for the individual with the brain injury and their families. At the Brain Injury Society of Toronto we support individuals living with the effects of brain injury and their families. You can help us make a difference.
Why volunteer with BIST?
People of all ages and walks of life volunteer at BIST as it offers a wonderful opportunity to use existing skills, learn new skills, met new people and truly make a difference in the lives of people.
Your contributions will matter, and you will help to improve the lives of individuals with brain injury and their families and friends. At the same time, you will have opportunities for personal growth, enrichment and satisfaction.
Volunteers are an integral part of BIST. As a small charitable organization, BIST relies on the dedication and compassion of our volunteers to deliver services and support our members.
Each spring, all those involved in BIST gather to share in a fun-filled volunteer appreciation night and awards ceremony.
What Kinds of Volunteer Opportunities are Available?
As a BIST volunteer, you will be encouraged to share your interests and expertise with the placement committee so that a suitable position can be found. The seven BIST committees are divided into: awareness, volunteering, fundraising, membership, programs and services, communications, and special events. The volunteering needs of each committee may vary at any given time; however, past needs for volunteers have included, for assistance, assistance with monthly community meetings, picnics, or the annual ABI awareness event at Nathan Philip's Square.
What Kind of Commitment is Expected of a Volunteer?
The volunteer committee will work with you to find a placement that best accommodates your availability and skills. Depending upon the need and your interest, your commitment may range from one-time assistance at an event to participation on a committee that meets monthly.
