Brain Injury Support Groups

Brain injuries change lives. Support groups allow individuals and family and caregivers living with the effects of brain injury to meet others with similar experiences. These groups offer valuable emotional support, information and resources and will enable you to meet new friends, become more familiar with resources in the community, and provide an environment where positive and negative feelings can be expressed without judgment from others.

Student Support Connection

Monthly facilitated group for prospective students, current students and those thinking about attending post-secondary school.  This is your resource to ensure academic success and network with others.

Peer Support Mentoring

The Peer Mentoring program matches people with ABI or family members with volunteer Mentors who can share their experience, offering support and practical tips and information. BIST participates in this program with many other brain injury associations across Ontario, allowing access to a wide variety of Mentors with diverse experiences and information. To find out more, contact Kat Powell, Peer Support Coordinator at connections@bist.ca, or 416-830-1485.

Personal Development Workshops

BIST offers different Personal Development Workshops and Programs both independently and in partnership with other non-profit organizations. The focus of the workshops and programs include skill training workshops, ABI Survivors and Family members information, education and support sessions. Check our Upcoming Events for more information.

Social Events

BIST hosts social activities and events several times throughout the year. These activities allow our members to relax and have fun together. Events may include picnics, holiday parties, bowling, sporting events or dances. Check our Upcoming Events for more information.

ABI Awareness

BIST works to help raise awareness of Acquired Brain Injury and its effects. BIST volunteers speak to community groups to help increase the knowledge of brain injury and improve their ability to support people in their community. Contact info@bist.ca or call 416.830.1485 to arrange for one of our volunteers to speak to your group
