Acquired Brain Injury Adult Day Program - West Park Healthcare
West Park Healthcare Centre’s Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Adult Day Program engages participants in meaningful activities. Clients with challenging behaviours make up a portion of the program’s participants. COTA Health, a key program partner, provides program development and case management services. Referrals come through the Toronto ABI Network.
The program also gives caregivers the support they need and deserve. This support includes ongoing communication with program staff, education on managing behaviours, and availability of one respite bed for client overnight stays to give caregivers time to recharge.
About the Program
- The ABI Adult Day Program operates 5 days per week from 10:00am to 2:30pm; each client attends 1-2 days per week for about 6 months. Participants bring their lunch, and the program provides light snacks.
- The program will be starting October 4, 2010
- Program activities support participants’ goals, enhance their strengths, and enable them to learn new skills. Groups address issues that challenge ABI clients and their families. Activities and sessions focus on recreational activities, social support, and skills training.
- The ABI Adult Day Program is held at West Park Healthcare Centre, 82 Buttonwood Avenue

Eligible Clients
- Program participants are at least 18 years old; have moderate to severe acquired brain injury; are medically stable; are currently living in, or preparing to return to, the community; and have a family physician.
